Movies

This is my last blog and it can be about anything that I want so I am going to talk about movies.

I love all kind of movies bacause they make me create new worlds. I can`t tell you how many movies I have seen because there are too many!

What I like about movies is that they are the perfect excuse if you want to meet with your friends or if you want to invite someone on a date.
I think that the most complicated thing if you want to invite someone to the movietheater is to choose what kind of movie you want to see, because there exist there three kind of movie drama, comedy and terror.

It is difficult to decide what movie is my favorite because I enjoy all of them, but I can tell you that my favourite director is Tim Burton because his films are amazing. He is very creative and original.
His last creation was Alice in Wonderland, this is an old film that he change a little bit of it in order to be more representative to the world were living in.(186)

“Edward scissor hands” is other if his films, this story is wonderfull, it is about a man who has scissor instead of hands, this man was created by a scientist who died at the beggining of the film so Edward had to learn how to live in a normal world. This is one of the most popular film in the history.

So I invite you to see more films and to learn what they are tying to tell us, because every movie teach us different things.

My experience learning English at the Faculty

It is very important to know how to communicate with people in all the possible ways. For example you can use body expression, your eyes and your language and this is in every country in the world.
So if we want to know how the different cultures communicate we must know how to talk in Spanish very well and we have to learn different languages like English, because it is a universal language so it will be useful in every part of the world.

Last year our University decided to change the curriculum, and it included English as an obligatory subject so we are having this asignature. This is very positive for us because it is a new way to interact with people from other careers and with this we can learn how to work in team and how to respect one from another.
It has been very difficult this year because we don’t have a lot of free time so we can’t dedicate a lot of time to the thing that we want, or to practice more this new language that we are learning which is very important to our develop as a health workers.
So it is a great idea to have this subject but obviously there are a lot of thing that we can improve, for example, there are a lot of teachers that participate in the English program but, every one of them teaches in different ways. Maybe it would be better to use a common system so that the students will learn the same, considering that it the classroom every student have a different style of learning.
And the other important thing is that every teacher must teach English related medicine, because this is the most important part for us to learn.

The second semester has been very different because we have learned a lot of medicine terms in English. This is very necessary because nowadays all the information that we constantly need to complement our study is in English like articles, books and internet. So we have to keep learning and if you have the time and motivation youm may even learn 2 or 3 more languages.

Brain Myths!

On Thursday, novembre 4 an Amazing person came to see our class in order to talk about the brain. Pedro Maldonado is an excelente professor of the University and I have to say that I admired him very much because he is brilliant and he dedicated some of his time to give us a little talk about the brain that is a very interesting subject.

He said a lot of interesting things, he start telling us that there are a lot of myths about the brain and he help us to clear up a lot of them.
For example he told us that when we are doing something all our brain is working, some areas more than others because he never rest, and all of this areas are connected with each other. When we learn our brain changes, this is the reason why when we do something a lot of times we improved because our brain create new connections.

Human Brain is important because of his biology, it help us in our education and for our mental health, this is why some people believe that everything is in the brain like personality, things that we said, things that we need and diseases. So it is very important to continue investigating on it, because this could help us to discover more about a lot of diseases, helping us finding the reason why the human been have some wear actitud when he face up to different kind of problems.

I think that the brain represent all that we are, we should take care of it.

Let’s talk about stress.

Stress is a very common subject in our days, because everyone of us have it, some are more stress than others, it depends of the way of living.

Actually we live in a country that is always in a hurry, the people wake up very early in the morning and they arrive to their houses very late in the afternoon. This is because a lot of them have a very long laboral working day or some of them do some extra work, that is exhausting.

So the people do not have enough time for themselves, they are not used to have leisure time and if the have a little time they do not enjoy it very much in family or doing some sports, they prefer to watch TV, clearly that is not a good way of relaxing.

This way of living is not very different for students, because most of them have an exhausting class day. You have so much to do like studing for a test, you have to do a work and a homework all for the same day.
I think that Universities are not considering that students need to do different kind of thing in order to be a complete professional, for example, you need time to read a good book, or to do some sports and do thing that help you to reduce stress.

This is very important because it have influence in how I am going to be as a professional. It is very difficult to change the whole system so we have to start for changing oru way of living, for example spending more of my free time doing those thing that I love like dancing.

Obesity crisis 'cannot be solved by exercise alone'

This post is a summary about an article that I read in the guardian newspaper.

Obesity is an epidemic disease that has increased in the last years.
This article said that in all of the different countries and experts all over the world they recommend to do a lot of exercise for several hours a day in order to loss weight.
This part is very difficult for the people who have this disease because they could prefer to eat less.

Professor John Speakman of the energetic research group at Aberdeen University said that is more effective to reduce the calories that they consume, because if you reduced them in one third this is equivalent to exercising for around five hours a day and that is not possible., it is not real.

In a study that this doctor did, they found that people in the world is not becoming more sedentary this has been the same from about 25 years ago, from the other point or view obesity has risen in the last year as a result of eating more high-calorie food than exercising more not of doing less exercises.

John Speakman said that to recommend exercise is always a good idea because it is beneficial in a lot of aspects of life, for example it protects you against heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. But if you want that your patients lose weight they will have to start with healthy eating and diets.

So if you want good health you have to combine both of them, eating well and do some sports.

Levonorgestrel as an emergency contraception.

As a woman I fell with the duty of knowing how to take care of myself and how women all around the world use different kind of anticonceptions.
One of this anticonceptions is Levonorgestrel.

Last Thursday Dr. Valenzuela, a very important man in the ICBM, he a very interesting man and very brilliant. He came to our english class because we wanted to tell us how does levonorgestrel work in case of and emergency contraception.
It was an amazing presentation about a controversial medical subject. He told us his thought about abortion and he told us a lot about how did he investigate the subject in which he discovered that levonorgestrel is very usefull in an anticonception way but it is also effective when you use it like in emergency contraception.

I think that is very important, before using this, you have to make an opinion about abortion and when do yo believe that life start.

Actually Chile is living that problem, if the goberment should or should not give the drug for free, because there a lot of different opinions and of course that no one can say wich point of view is the correct one.

Dr Valenzuela told us that if a woman have coitus in her ovulation period and she take levonorgestrel 3 or 5 day after coitus, this drug prevent the implantation of the embryo in the uterus, blooking the pass from the ovario to the uterus, in the investigation the saw that this could increase the probability of having stopic pregnancy, so if you have an emergency contraception this drug is not the better way.
