Levonorgestrel as an emergency contraception.

As a woman I fell with the duty of knowing how to take care of myself and how women all around the world use different kind of anticonceptions.
One of this anticonceptions is Levonorgestrel.

Last Thursday Dr. Valenzuela, a very important man in the ICBM, he a very interesting man and very brilliant. He came to our english class because we wanted to tell us how does levonorgestrel work in case of and emergency contraception.
It was an amazing presentation about a controversial medical subject. He told us his thought about abortion and he told us a lot about how did he investigate the subject in which he discovered that levonorgestrel is very usefull in an anticonception way but it is also effective when you use it like in emergency contraception.

I think that is very important, before using this, you have to make an opinion about abortion and when do yo believe that life start.

Actually Chile is living that problem, if the goberment should or should not give the drug for free, because there a lot of different opinions and of course that no one can say wich point of view is the correct one.

Dr Valenzuela told us that if a woman have coitus in her ovulation period and she take levonorgestrel 3 or 5 day after coitus, this drug prevent the implantation of the embryo in the uterus, blooking the pass from the ovario to the uterus, in the investigation the saw that this could increase the probability of having stopic pregnancy, so if you have an emergency contraception this drug is not the better way.

  2. Hi Pia,

I´m happy that Dr. Valenzuela's talk gave you new insights and a lot of food for thought. Yes, no doubt it is a controversial topic...but as a country we need to start making decisions about issues that affect everybody's well being. This may be better achieved with the suppport of serious scientific arguments, don't you think?
